About the Tour
The tour begins with a brief demonstration covering safety, gear, and basic paddling technique, then sets off into the calm waters of the Intracoastal for roughly two hours of guided exploration. Experienced guides interpret the coastal ecosystem as you go — salt marsh, wading birds, osprey, and, especially in the warmer months, dolphins and manatees. All experience levels are welcome (generally ages 12 and up), space is limited, and reservations are required through the Ranger Station.
Your donation directly supports the Friends of Gamble Rogers State Park, the volunteer citizens support organization behind the park's beloved public programs — from the twice-monthly Gamble Jam acoustic gatherings to kids' art clubs and these very kayak ecotours.
A Park with a Hero's Name
The park honors Florida folk singer and storyteller Gamble Rogers, who died in 1991 attempting to rescue a drowning swimmer at this very beach. Today his namesake park preserves a rare slice of undeveloped barrier island between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal — a half-mile of orange coquina sand beach on one side, riverside camping, trails, and a butterfly garden on the other. It's one of the most quietly beautiful spots on Florida's east coast.
